Freshness and availability
Read updated_at, date, stale, quality, methodology_version and each component’s asOf, observedAt, periodDays and status. updated_at/current/stale describe the calculation, not the freshness of every source. closed and pending follow source publication schedules; stale and unavailable mark source problems. value=null is unavailable, never neutral. The running UTC day can change. Outages may return the last saved dataset or HTTP 503. New API/MCP routes share a service-wide limit of 600 requests per minute; HTTP 429 includes Retry-After. There is no uptime guarantee.
History and attribution
These historical readings are recalculated from currently available source data. They are not the values originally published on each day. Source corrections can revise past readings. The current UTC day is provisional; a missing value is not zero.
When quoting, name Smart Money Futures Fear & Greed Index, link source_url and include date and updated_at. The index describes positioning, not a crash probability. This interface does not grant redistribution rights to external providers’ raw data.
